The Moments of Happiness: Memory, | Global Mandarin Academy Foundation

"Where Language, Culture, Humanities, and Global Perspectives Converge"

About This Special Issue

What makes a moment unforgettable?

A shared meal with family. The laughter of a close friend. The beauty of autumn leaves. The fragrance of tea. A favorite poem. A meaningful journey. A work of art. The kindness of a stranger. A quiet conversation. A breathtaking landscape. These seemingly ordinary moments often become the memories we treasure most.

Across cultures and throughout history, literature, art, and storytelling have preserved these moments of joy, beauty, gratitude, love, wonder, and hope. Yet the ways in which happiness is remembered, imagined, and expressed remain a rich area for interdisciplinary exploration.

This special issue of The Sinocultural Review invites scholars, educators, writers, artists, photographers, translators, and creative practitioners to explore the moments of happiness through literature, language, culture, philosophy, history, education, and the arts.

Rather than viewing happiness as a single emotion or universal ideal, we understand it as a deeply personal and culturally meaningful experience. Happiness may be found in childhood memories, family traditions, lifelong friendships, artistic creation, music, food, nature, travel, language learning, cultural discovery, spiritual reflection, or the quiet beauty of everyday life. Often, our happiest memories become even more meaningful because they are remembered alongside life's ordinary challenges, reminding us of resilience, gratitude, hope, and the enduring power of human connection.

We welcome interdisciplinary, comparative, and cross-cultural perspectives that explore how happiness is remembered, imagined, represented, and shared across languages, cultures, and artistic traditions.

The Moments of Happiness: Memory, Imagination, and Human Connection
